Swimming

Swimming is a crucial part of our PE curriculum, recognized as both excellent exercise and a vital life skill. We provide swimming lessons for Year 3 -Year 5 pupils  ensuring all pupils have the opportunity to develop water confidence and safety skills. This  allows children to learn water and lifesaving skills, ensuring progress for swimmers of all abilities.

As a part of the Physical Education Programme of Study, a statutory element of the National Curriculum, children must be provided with swimming instruction and should be taught to:

  • Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
  • Use a range of strokes effectively (for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke etc)
  • Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
